WHY GUMANE EXISTS
Saigon has plenty of barbers. Finding one who understands Western hair is a different problem.
We saw it before we opened. Expats and travelers going from chair to chair — describing their haircut with their hands, leaving with something "close enough," coming back to try again. Some people started waiting until they flew home.
We didn't think that was acceptable.
Gumane was built around one observation: Western hair behaves differently. The texture, the elasticity, the way it sits in Saigon's humidity — it needs someone who was trained for it, not someone adapting on the spot.

“Nam is incredibly kind and a master of his craft. The shop isn’t as hard to find as some of the other reviews will lead you to believe, there’s a very visible barber pole out front of the cafe. He was outside waiting for me five minutes before our appointment and had zero issues. I had an exquisite hot and cold towel shave and it was topped off with a one of a kind head neck and should massage! He even gave me a small gift for my wife when we parted ways. At Gumane, yes. Your barber speaks English for the whole session and knows the terms: fade, taper, undercut, layers. If words aren't enough, show us a photo. That always works.
Sides shorter than you're used to back home — that's the main adjustment. A high fade or textured crop holds up well through Saigon's heat and humidity. Clipper guard numbers work the same here as back home — size 1 sides (3mm), size 2 (6mm), size 3 (10mm), size 4 (13mm). Just say the number plus where: "size 2 on the sides, scissors on top."
